Welcome, I’m Sarah

As a somatic practitioner and clinical herbalist I'm dedicated to supporting clients holistically and emphasize self-awareness, education, and personal empowerment.

My journey into offering this work began twelve years ago while studying psychology as an undergraduate and working as a crisis counselor. Around this same time, I started learning about herbalism through reading books on plants, attending workshops, and volunteering at a local free herb clinic. I loved connecting with nature and, as someone who lives with chronic illness, I felt a sense of agency in supporting my own healing with plants.

Over the next five years, I explored various paths: mentoring teens, tending to gardens, working in cafes, cooking for a small grocer, caretaking, and working my way up in the restaurant industry. I also became certified as a birth and full spectrum doula, and worked in a free clinic offering STI testing and counseling. Despite these experiences being important parts of my journey, nothing quite fit. This realization led me back to my initial interests in herbalism and counseling, and I decided to formally study them.

I was excited to deepen my connection and knowledge of plants, better understand body systems and diagnostics, build my therapeutic skills, and ultimately support others. I completed a two-year clinical herbal certification with School of Traditional Healing Arts and began working one-on-one with clients. Seeking a more social justice-informed training with herbalists I admired, I took a six-month advanced clinical skills course and round table mentorship with Ember Peters, Stascha Stahl, and Vilde Chaya. Following this, I did a one-on-one internship in Nova Scotia with Ember Peters. I’ve since studied with Sarah Holmes of Blue Otter School, Maria Noel Groves, Liden de Voil, Kelly McCarthy, Tessa Micaela, and Dr. Steven Finkbine.

As I was deepening into offering my herbal practice, I started seeing a Hakomi (somatic mindfulness) practitioner for my own healing. Hakomi is a form of somatic mindfulness therapy that focuses on the body-mind connection. The sessions were transformative; I listened to and reconnected with my body, processed long-repressed emotions, and connected with my inner child—experiences I hadn't encountered in traditional therapy.

As I experienced the profound benefits of Hakomi, I was simultaneously referring some of my herbal clients out for additional therapeutic support. It soon became clear to me that combining Hakomi with herbalism could offer multiple layers of care. Motivated by this idea and my previous studies in psychology, I decided to dive into a two-year Hakomi training. This opened a new world for me, and I fell in love with the practice.

Now a Hakomi graduate, I’m thrilled to offer this transformative work alone or in conjunction with herbalism. This integration allows me to combine my favorite practices—herbalism and somatic therapy—into a holistic approach to healing. While some clients may seek just herbalism or just somatic therapy, I am excited to offer the unique benefits that come from blending both modalities. Integrating these practices provides comprehensive support, addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.

My perspective is shaped by my experiences as a cis white chronically ill Ashkenazi Jew, with roots in Eastern European and Irish ancestry. These identities inform my dedication to anti-oppressive, anti-capitalist values, with an emphasis on disability justice and harm reduction. Guided by these principles, I bring curiosity and openness to every person I work with, regardless of their identities or beliefs.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time outdoors, connecting with plants, swimming in rivers, lounging with a good book, and sharing good food with friends. I live in a 100-year-old adobe home nestled in the high desert of Northern New Mexico with my partner, two dogs, one cat, four ducks, and five chickens. Our home sits on the ancestral and contemporary lands of the Tiwa, Tewa, and Apache people.
